A mountain biker who loves to ride the trails with sandstone (slick rock) and granite rocks. My favorite trails are around Moab, UT, Lake Tahoe, Downieville, CA, and near the west entrance to Zion National Park and Bryce National Park. Mostly I ride the Santa Cruz Mountains.

Heading to Fruita, Moab, and Hurricane / St. George

I’m going for three weeks at the end of September and including Outerbike in Moab.  I’ll miss Rampage this year.  I’ll add some more bike evaluations and collect additional material for my trail analysis videos.

I need to shoot a bit more video in the Fruita / Grand Junction area such as an intermediate trail in the Lunch Loops, Horsethief Bench and that amazing drop-in hike a bike, a re-shoot of Dippity, and probably one of the trails farther out Mary’s such as Troy Built or Steves, or both.  So this winter I should have enough for a Trail Analysis video for that area.

In Virgin Utah / Hurricane MTB Festival

We’re camping at the Zion River RV Resort in Virgin for a week and riding the amazing trails around us.  Tomorrow, Friday, starts the 3 day Hurricane Mountain Bike Festival and I’ll be riding and reviewing a few bikes.

Getting restless? March and April MTB Bike Festivals!

Mountain biking festivals and demo events are a BLAST!  Besides getting to ride a bunch of expensive bikes there are often other activities along with food and beer.  Very social.

Sedona MTB Festival March 4 – 6, Sedona, AZ.  This looks like a great festival.  However, budget lodging and camping in the area is limited so bring money.  The 3 day pass for $100 is a good deal.  Event camping for $125 / adult for two days is not my idea of budget.  Sedona is very nice but later in March has better weather and the other festivals are great also.  Shuttles.

An MTB destination pioneer speaks about trails

I know Troy.  Worse than that for Troy I’m trying to get him involved in a trails project at the 2014 Winter Olympics site in Russia.  Troy has pioneered several MTB destinations out of nothing, starting with Fruita, CO.  Now that is his business.  He is about as pro-intermediate rider as they come.  Checkout his vision.

New Video: Mountain Biking Hurricane St. George!

Explore the top trails with me in Southwest Utah!  I’ll take you on a quick ride on 7 major trails including South Rim, Hidden Canyon, and North Rim on Gooseberry Mesa, JEM, Guacamole Mesa, Little Creek Mesa, Quail Lake / Boy Scout Trails, Prospector and Church Rocks, and Barrel Roll with a mention of the more technical nearby Zen Trail.   There is a lot to ride in the region that hosts the famous Red Bull Rampage free ride event.

Editing vids for the Zion – St. George Utah area

I’ll first do an overview of the main trails in the region and then trail analyses of the trails near Hurricane and Virgin such as Gooseberry Mesa, Guacamole Mesa, the JEM trail system, and Little Creek Mesa then move down to near St. George for Church Rocks and Barrel Roll.  I thought I had video clips for the Zen Trail but so far can’t locate them.  It is similar to Barrel Roll near Santa Clara but more advanced rock at the top.  Beautiful views and worth a ride.

I’ll also throw in the Overlook or Boy Scout trails and my wild ride in high winds and bush whacking there.

The only significant blood was ripping off a thumb nail while riding over a cattle guard on Cryptobiotic Trail.  That was a bloody mess for a while.  I won’t push off with my bare hand from a metal post again.

There are other trails in the area but these will paint the picture pretty well.
